When I first arrived I did not have any expectations, Ansa showed my room which was so beautiful with huge bed and looked like Fantastic. Surfing lessons started next morning and I learned a lot! Ansa is a very good teacher. One night we had fish/prawn BBQ at the beach and it was perfect. Place is also located in nice area, close to beach (and the water is so clear!)

I stayed here for almost a week and really enjoyed it! The rooms are spacious and clean and the hosts are very nice and helpful! Great private surf lessons are offered and you will be taken to the best spot for your skill level, and there are many surf spots close by! Also, they offer amazing pizza! Really recommend!

“Great surfcamp for all surf level”
We spend a week at the Star Rest Surf Camp Arugambay and it’s definitely a place we recommend to enjoy the sea and relax. Ansa is an incredible human : wonderful surf teacher, great cooker, tuktuk driver sometimes, a funny energic guy’s. The room are very spacious and the bed comfortable and big! Is close to the sea (70m) and quiet. Breakfasts are quite huge : toast bread, fruits, eggs and hot drink. Pizza are great (good after lot of rice and curry) Fish diner we had for Christmas was delicious (include on the surf week package) Thanks for this amazing break we had Take care of you and your family 🙂

Star Rest surf camp can only be an amaizing experience
the camp, the cabanas, the palm garden … everything is perfectly equipped and enjoyable. But the best thing is that it allows you not only to make friends with guests and staff (efficient, kind, always present), but also to enter the full easygoing of Abay.
You can really try surfing lifestyle of the island.

Amazing experience In Sri Lanka
Initially booked one week but thanks to the great familiar atmosphere, beautiful location and the awesome staff I decided to come back for another week after traveling through Sri Lanka. Everyone makes you feel welcome and is happy to help with anything you might need.

I never tried surfing before, but Nilam & Ansa explained everything very good and gave us a lot of valuable advices. The video classes in the afternoon also helped a lot to understand the mistakes everyone made. Thanks to the excellent instruction I was able to make a huge progress during the two weeks. I also really enjoyed the Yoga classes every morning after surf.
In the evenings we had a lot of fun in and outside of the camp – one of my highlights was the camping on the beach with bonfire, excellent food!! and nice music. You get to feel at home, far away from home and I highly recommend this camp to everyone.

Great for all level of surfers
Star Rest Surf Camp is a well-established surf camp in Arugam Bay that is suitable for all level of surfers, solo or with friends. The surf camp provides a friendly environment in their main rest area and packs with fun group activities and outings throughout the week. I love the well-organized schedule by their amazing boss, Ansa! I truly felt I belonged to a family as a solo traveler after staying in this charming camp for a short one week.

Although you can check in anytime, I highly recommend sticking to the suggested schedule listed on their website. You will find it easier to progress through your surfing, and not miss out all the fun social activities throughout the week!

As an intermediate surfer, I benefited substantially from the surf guide with in-depth local knowledge of each surf breaks. We explored multiple spots throughout the week. Arugam Bay is quite crowded, so going with a group to start surfing before sunrise and finish surfing after sunset is the best way to maximize your fun time. You would surf at a less busy time with long enough session to keep you exhausted. One of my favorite activities also after an intense surf was to practice Yoga with their fantastic instructor Meliouchy, so don’t miss out!

Star Rest surf camp also works with local surf shops to match you with the perfect rental board. Did I also mention they have a great photographer to take cool pictures of you? All surfers can benefit from the video analysis, move by move in their surf lesson in the camp.

Something to keep in mind. The booking process can be a bit unusual to first deposit to a local bank before the camp contacts you for arrangement. Fear not. It is not a scam!! The camp has AC, so taking a nap at noon in the hot summer of Sri Lanka may be tough at first. But trust me, you will be so tired in the first few days that you will quickly forget about the heat and happy with the A/C.
